Women Were Patients for 91.3% of All Cosmetic Procedures in 2011
According to the same American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery research study on surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic procedures undergone in the United States that found the top five surgical cosmetic procedures for men in 2011, women underwent 8,398,424 procedures last year. This represents an increase of over 208% in the number of surgical and nonsurgical procedures for women since 1997.
Focusing on only the surgical cosmetic procedures completed for women during 2011, the most frequently requested and undergone surgical cosmetic procedures (in descending order) were breast augmentations, lipoplasty procedures (liposuction), abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), breast lifts, and blepharoplasty procedures (cosmetic eyelid surgery).
#1 – Breast Augmentations [316,848 procedures]
Breast augmentations, the most frequently requested surgical cosmetic procedure by women, are breast enlargement procedures wherein women can select the shape, location, and size of the breast implant, as well as the placement of all incisions related to the completion of the procedure.

#2 – Lipoplasty Procedures (Liposuction) [283,669 procedures]
The second most-frequently requested surgical cosmetic procedure undergone by women is lipoplasty (also known as liposuction). This power-assisted procedure provides women with a means of removing stubborn fat deposits that do not seem to respond to nutrition, dieting, or exercise.

#3 – Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck) [142,657 procedures]
Abdominoplasty procedures, also called tummy tucks, are the third most-frequently undergone surgical cosmetic procedure undergone by women. Meant to flatten or smooth the appearance of the stomach, tummy tucks involve the targeted removal of fat deposits and excess, in addition to a tightening of the stomach muscles, to deliver an improved appearance.

#4 – Breast Lifts [127,054 procedures]
The fourth most-frequently requested cosmetic surgery procedure by women, breast lifts are a procedure intended to improve the shape and firmness of the breasts that may have been lost gradually over time due to aging, pregnancy, or genetics.

#5 – Blepharoplasty Procedures (Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery) [124,635 procedures]
Blepharoplasty procedures (also called cosmetic eyelid surgery) are the fifth most-popular surgical cosmetic surgery requested by women in 2011. This procedure is meant to revitalize and reshape the eyelids for improved aesthetic appearance and, in some cases, physical functionality.
